Ruth Bader Ginsburg To Officiate Same-Sex Wedding/Operation Confidence

Ruth Bader Ginsburg To Officiate Same-Sex Wedding/Operation Confidence

Ruth Bader Ginsburg will become the first Supreme Court justice to officiate a same-sex wedding, The Washington Post reported Friday.

Ginsburg will officiate the wedding of Kennedy Center President Michael M. Kaiser and economist John Roberts. The wedding will take place on Saturday at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.

The move by Ginsburg comes just two months after the Supreme Court's ruling on the Defense of Marriage Act, the law barring the federal government from recognizing same-sex marriages legalized by the states. The court ruled DOMA was unconstitutional by a 5-4 vote.

During the March oral arguments on DOMA, Ginsburg said supporters of the law seemed to want "two types of marriage," likening same-sex unions to the "skim milk" version of marriage, according to HuffPost's Ryan Reilly and Sabrina Siddiqui.
